How to Get to Himeji Castle
What to See Inside
Main Keep (Daitenshu)
The six-story main tower is the heart of Himeji Castle. Designated both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Japanese National Treasure. The steep staircases and original wooden beams give an authentic medieval atmosphere.
West Bailey (Nishi-no-maru)
The long corridor (Sudare-bari) and watchtowers of the West Bailey offer sweeping views of the grounds and are perfect for photography. Especially beautiful during cherry blossom season.
Koko-en Garden (adjacent)
A stunning traditional Japanese garden immediately west of the castle. Nine themed gardens with seasonal flowers, ponds, and teahouses. Admission ¥310 or ¥1,050 combined with castle.
Sannomaru (Castle Grounds)
The wide open plaza in front of the castle is the best spot for full-castle photography. During cherry blossom season, over 1,000 trees frame the white facade in pink — arguably Japan's most iconic spring photo.
